For those of us with cheese on the brain, springtime means one thing first and foremost: young goat’s milk cheeses! Fresh, grassy, lemony goat’s milk cheeses are the perfect expression of the season, and we’ll start our class by celebrating some of the spectacular classics from France’s Loire Valley and Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Then we’ll follow the changes in goat cheese’s flavor from surface-ripened, to washed rind, to semi-firm and hard, aged formats, touching down in Italy, Spain, France, Holland and the US, with accompanying pairings of wine, beer and small bites.

Marche's Columbia Gorge Winemaker's Dinner

Too often, the Columbia Gorge AVA is thought of as just another portion of the larger, more recognized Columbia Valley AVA–but the Gorge is distinct and separate unto itself. Join us as we welcome Vigneron Alexis Pouillon from Domaine Pouillon and Trevor Hertich from Idiot’s Grace to an evening dedicated to the wines of the Columbia Gorge. It’s a dynamic and diverse growing environment, with wineries that source fruit from both sides of the Columbia. Domaine Pouillon was founded by Alexis & Juliet Pouillon producing on an artisanal scale since 2005. Idiot’s Grace (aka Memaloose Wines) was founded by the father and son team of Rob and Brian McCormick in 2003. We’re honored to have some remarkable selections from both wineries, and experts on hand to talk about how they pair with the fabulous spring menu that our chef, Rocky Maselli, has designed. We’re kicking off a new season of cheese classes with one of the most fascinating and diverse categories: cheeses washed in a saltwater brine, beer, wine or distilled spirits. Sometimes sweet in flavor, sometimes savory or even spicy; sometimes soft and runny in texture, sometimes hard and dense; washed rind cheeses are most often recognized by a reddish-orange rind and - yes, I’ll say it - a particularly pungent aroma. In this class we’ll peel back the stinky exteriors to reveal cheeses whose seductive complexity and long history cannot be matched. We’ll taste some old-world classics and some exciting American originals, with accompanying pairings of wine, beer and small bites.

Support Women's Care in Uganda with Swahili

On World Health Day (Saturday, April 7th) Swahili at 5th Street will be donating 50% of our sales to the Mothers & Children's Medical Center of Gayaza, Uganda (a rural and under-served community about 10 miles north of the capital city, Kampala).

In Uganda, healthcare is a major challenge with mothers and children being among the most vulnerable groups. Without access to proper medical care, the rates of maternal mortality, infant mortality, and serious childhood illness are very high.

We invite you to show your support for the future of Uganda simply by shopping!

Enter a raffle or two, and sample African beer and wine while chatting with Allen Walugembe of MCMC to hear more about the launch of their important project and how together, we can help make a difference in the lives of mothers and their children in this under-served area of Uganda.

Provisions Oysterfest

*Sold Out*

It’s time for a tasting trip up the coast, as we feast on the northwest’s amazing oysters–from our neighbors in Netarts and Yaquina Bay, up to Washington’s Pickering Passage and Hammersley Bay, we’ll have a range of varieties to taste and compare on the half shell. Growers and shuckers will be on hand to talk about how these delicious bivalves are harvested and the remarkable differences in flavor that you’ll find from place to place. We’ll be shucking around the fountain, grilling a few of the larger varieties, warming up with oyster chowder and pouring muscadet and bubbly–join us for this wintry feast!

$42/person, includes a dozen oyster tickets & two wines

Tickets: https://provisionsmarkethall.com/event/oysterfest/

*more oyster tickets will be available a la carte at the party

Space is limited, register online to reserve your spot!

*we’ll be feasting and shucking both inside & out-- there will be heaters outside and coziness inside, but lots of the action will be outside. Bundle up!
